While at this time Medicare rebates for psychotherapy are unavailable, people seeking long-term, comprehensive treatment (e.g., trauma, attachment issues) generally find that the total cost is favourable when weighed against alternative therapies such as Psychology which can have higher costs over time.

Counselling and psychotherapy can attract a benefit from private health/extras insurers. This depends on the particular insurer, policy and provider-recognition arrangements.
